Yes, this is a contest for the adorable “I don’t care what you look like at 6:30 in the morning, mom I’ve missed you all day, I’m hungry, rub my tummy, let’s play fetch, purr I love you” people in your life – your pets!
Now before everyone gets all jump up and down happy pants excited and we dish the details, say hello to Luci – a Bella Pop client, turned friend, turned fellow photog! Luci has recently launched herself into the wonderful world of photography with Paw Prints Photography by Lucinda May. Brandon and I just love Luci – she’s one of those fun, friendly, let’s sit back and chat kinda girls who LOVES animals! Yay! Here’s a little interview with the sassy and beautiful Luci:
Tell us a little about yourself:
- I am a Taurus and born in the Year of the Dragon
- I am British and half Chinese (on my dad’s side of the family.)
- I spent my elementary school years living in England and Norway!
- Married for 8 years
- I love playing ice hockey and watching the Dallas Stars
Where are you located? I live in Plano, but when I work with clients and their pets, I will go to their homes, backyards, or other favorite spots to photograph them.
If you could build your dream home anywhere in the world, where would it be? Other than Highland Park here in Dallas, it would without a doubt be: London, England
What’s your favorite snack? Hmmm… if I’m not munching on some cheese, then it’s Kashi granola bars with some Nutella spread on them. YUM!
Tell us about your own pets: My cat, Spree, is turning 10 this year. He’s a Maine Coon, with fluffy grey fur and golden eyes. He’s not a lap cat, but instead prefers to sit next to me or somewhere nearby. He is obsessed with food and would eat constantly were it not for his automatic feeer! He also likes to tease our dog, so they are constantly at odds with each other. Winchester, the Great Dane, is 7 years old. He has grey merle markings with a white belly. He unfortunately has bad allergies, so we have to give him allergy shots every 10 days. He is completely unaware of how big he is!
How long have you been taking pictures? I’ve had some sort of camera in my hands ever since I was a kid!
What do you love about photographing pets? Every owner thinks their pet is The Best Pet Ever and I enjoy discovering why they think that when I photograph their pets. Pets have their own quirks and personalities! They look cute and funny without even trying. Most of all, pets make me happy and who wouldn’t want to be happy while they are working?
Why do you think it’s important to have your pets pictures taken? Because everyone loves photos as a visual archive of life’s events. As much as we want them to, our pets don’t live forever and photographs help capture those moments, whether it is a yawn, a goofy expression or a happy smile.
How do you get dogs and cats to look at the camera? Lots of patience, lots of treats, and often I’ll have the owners help me out by standing behind me and talking to their pet.
What has been your most funny experience so far? Maybe not so much funny as just pets being pets, but I was photographing Ziggy the cat recently and I was trying to get her to look into my camera so I started dangling my fingers in front of her. She swatted and hissed at me, but she looked into my lens! My other favorite story is when Bunz the cat jumped into a box on the kitchen table at my sister’s apartment. The box had “Packed With Happiness” printed on the outside of it which was just too perfect.
