Shooting in Manual – Photo 101
This is the class for anyone who has a big fancy camera and either a) shoots in automatic b) shoots in “training wheels” c) wants to feel more confident shooting in manual or d) has no clue what’s going on… AKA the learn to “boss your camera around class.” In this class we’ll learn how to care for your camera and about the different buttons and knobs. We’ll also learn all about shooting in manual including working with aperture and shutter speed. Before you know it you’ll be showing off your mad photography skills!
Skill Level and Gear:
This is a beginner class – no skill level or experience is required! This is also a great class to refresh and become more confident in shooting in manual, so intermediate students are welcome. As far as gear, students will need a DSLR or point and shoot with manual capability to take the class. A kit lens is just fine, no special lenses are required.
Class Outline:
Week 1 – buttons and knobs, camera care, lenses, intro to shooting in manual
Week 2 – aperture, getting background blur and bokeh, manually setting focus points
focal plane and depth of field
Week 3 - shutter speed, motion blur, freezing motion, obtaining sharp focus
aperture vs. shutter speed
Week 4 - ISO, white balance, metering, advanced focus techniques
