DIY Mini iPhone Prints

Oh. So. Cute!!  Absolutely LOVING these miniature iPhone prints.  Katrina @ Pugley Pixel first posted about making these little cuties and ever since I’ve had a major crush on them.  I couldn’t wait to make my own, which is a good thing considering I’ve been hoarding my iPhone photos for way too long.

The original idea calls for printing with 8.5×11″ photo paper.  Since I had a ton of 4×6 photo paper on hand I just used that.  I followed the directions but for some reason when I printed the photos they kept coming out kinda blurry and not really in focus like it looked on my iPhone.  Big fat bummer!  (this was my first time to ever print iPhone pics.)  After much ado and fussing I figured out that since the 4×6 document needs to be set to 300 ppi for printing,  the iPhone pics needed to be a different size to accommodate this issue.  Confused yet?  Don’t worry, I’ll post the complete how-to at the end of this post!

Now for a little mini print eye candy:

Cutest. thing. ever.

IKEA’s Spontan magnetic boards + The Container Store’s Mighty Magnets are awesome for displaying our iPhone mini prints.  I’m going to fill the entire board with these teensy colorful photos!

To make your own iPhone mini prints –

  • re-size prints to 575 x 575 pixels in Photoshop
  • create a new 8.5×11″ OR 4×6″ document set to 300 ppi
  • line up the images in a grid format on the new document
  • print
  • cut images with paper cutter (or by hand)

It takes a while to cut the prints out (you have to be extra careful to cut them straight) but it’s soooooo worth the effort.  I’m totally digging how they look in our home and our guests get a kick out of them too.  Yay!

Lynn - Brandy! I LOVE love love getting my iphone pics printed!! I’ve been using the stickygram.com to make cute little magnets (they come in 9 in a sheet) and they are having sale 3/2 sheets right now. I use postalpix app on my iphone to get cute little 4×4 prints made. The resolution is great!! Of course your way is super cute too!Fri. Jan 27, 2012 – 2:28 am

Angela - Hey Brandy! I sat down to try this project out today and I have a question. I don’t have photoshop so I’m just using Office Picture Manager to resize them. But when I go to resize them to 575×575, it doesn’t come out right. To maintain the aspect ratio, I usually end up with one being 575 and the other being either higher or lower… Is there a way to fix/avoid this? Or will that just be the way it is?Wed. Angela - I didn’t realize you were only using instagram photos! I figured it out!Wed. Feb 8, 2012 – 8:32 pm

Brandy - hi Angela! sorry I didn’t see this question sooner. I actually use hipstamatic photos. The original DIY was instagram, maybe that’s the difference? ;) Glad you got it to work!Thu. Feb 9, 2012 – 10:20 pm

Margaret Chapman - http://printstagr.am/ is really awesome if you use Instagram and don’t want to deal with printing them yourself. Highly recommend them! I love the miniprints!Thu. Mar 22, 2012 – 6:58 pm
