Camper Renovation – Glitter Painted Ceiling!
Oh gosh, I am SO excited about this! So here’s the thing, I’ve always had a crush on those old school glitter ceilings. You know the ones with the popcorn ceiling that had flakes of gold or silver glitter? Yes THOSE glitter ceilings. Well of course I just had to have some kind of glitter bling going on in Camperrrr (without the ugly popcorn!) but how to do it? There was this pin all over Pinterest about just dumping a jar of glitter in paint to make a glitter wall. Yeah NO, after much research that pin was deemed bogus. Dumping a jar of glitter in paint would just coat the glitter! AKA it’s not gonna show up. Well crap, what else was a girl to do? Then I discovered Valspar paint crystals…
From what info I could find online, these little packets of fairy dust made ANY paint color a glitter paint color. Basically it’s used to make the glitter effect when painting faux granite. You can buy the crystals in gold or silver (I chose silver!) and you should know they are a one time use. So you can’t mix them in and save the paint for later. I don’t know why, but that’s the deal.
Since I was painting the ceiling of an itty bitty vintage camper, I only needed a quart of paint. I used Behr teal ice. I happily dumped two bags of paint crystals into my paint can (I wanted it to be real glittery) but soon realized there wasn’t enough room to stir it up! So I had to dump the paint into the pan and stir it up that way which was kinda a pain with those bumps in the liner. There should be plenty of room to mix the crystals into a gallon can of paint, but if you’re using a quart you might want to use something else besides a paint pan. Anywhoo, all you do is stir the paint crystals into your paint! It’s that easy.
I read online that someone used 3 packets for one gallon and it made it REAL glittery. The less paint crystals you use, the more subtle the effect and you’ll see the glitter wherever the light hits it! So 1 packet of paint crystals for 1 gallon of paint will be a subtle sparkle. If you want glitter bonanza add 3. The best part about these paint crystals? The texture is smooth and when you’re sick of the glitter wall / ceiling you can paint over it like regular paint! Again, I used 2 packets for 1 quart of paint and honestly, I probably could have used 3. B seems to disagree and says there’s plenty of glitter. ;)
So you mix the paint crystals into your paint, then you need to paint immediately! Remember this is a one time thing and the mixed up glitter paint can’t be saved. When you start to paint you won’t see all the glitter just yet – but as the paint dries the crystals rise up to the surface and then you’ll have a glitter ceiling (or wall!) SO COOL!!
And here’s what my glitter ceiling looks like up close! LOVE LOVE LOVE! I read someone did a darker blue for a night sky effect in a master bedroom. This is also great for princess / fairy rooms – pink glitter wall? Or a space themed room with a grey silver glitter wall and oh, all kinds of other ideas. It’s just so. much. fun! And did I mention it’s not forever?? You can paint over it. That is even better. BTW you can find the Valspar paint crystals at Lowe’s – I believe it was in the section with the faux granite / additive stuff. I’ll have to check again and let y’all know. It took me a bit to find them! :)
YAY!!! So excited to see the interior coming together! The ceiling is now finished (still need to buy and install the air conditioner) and I’m currently finishing out all the white trim work. I’m also ready to put the window screens back up. Then it will be time for the floor. SO. EXCITED!!
Spring Crush!
Hey everyone! Well I’m back from our beach getaway and oh gosh did I take pictures. Photo bonanza!! Don’t worry, I’ll share our adventures soon. Ah spring, I’m crushing on you right now. The birds are chirping, wildflowers are blooming and yeah I’ve already done my annual grab. scissors. cut. pants. stunt. Yes, I do this EVERY time it first warms up in Texas. My mom said I was crazy and to not cut up all my pants! Don’t worry mom, I still have a couple long pants. ;) That deliciously warm 80 degree day always sneaks up on me though. And there I am standing in front of the closet with pants that are too hot to wear and last season’s capris are long gone. So I grab the sewing scissors every. single. time.
Speaking of sewing… remember that new sewing machine I have? Kinda need to start USING it already! I have some plans to re-style a few shirts for new spring and whatnot. Kinda excited about that. We’ll see how it goes anyway. After I pull out the closet and pick what will be re-styled, I’m ditching the winter clothes! That’s my new mantra in keeping my closet from getting too full and outta control. I get to buy new stuff each season. Sounds legit, right?? B gets new duds too.
