I have Fibromyalgia (YAY!!!) Said no one, ever

GUESS WHAT. I finally get why I stopped shooting professionally. It’s the reason I didn’t cook my usual big holiday meals. Or why 3 hours at the Perot Museum made me so EXHAUSTED I had to sit immediately, then just leave. It’s why I forget stuff and flake out on parties lately. And probably how I […]

crystal - I’m sorry to hear this, but I’m glad you finally know what is wrong. I enjoy your posts no matter how often they happen! Take care of yourself and thank you for always being so inspiring!Tue. Feb 4, 2014 – 6:30 pm

Natasha - Sorry to hear that you have Fibromyalgia, though it’s good to know what you’re dealing with. I’m a physical therapist, and have several patients with fibro. I highly recommend looking into finding a therapist in your area who specializes in aquatic therapy if you’re comfortable with swimming. I’ve found my patients with fibro respond amazingly well being in the water. I specialize in Burdenko aquatic exercises and land exercises, you may be able to find a therapist who knows about it. Some of my patients also find getting regular massages to help as well. Having a good attitude also is helpful, which you seem to have! Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions, or need other recommendations; I’ve gathered a lot of good tips from my clients for managing the symptoms.Wed. Feb 5, 2014 – 1:56 pm

Brandy - Thanks Natasha! That is great info. I’m definitely going to try massage therapy and I love being in the water so I’ll check that out too. If there are any therapists who specialize in aquatic therapy they’ll probably be in the city (about 45 min. from me) that’s also where the closest gym is that has a pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room. If anything I could join the gym – I figure going at lease once a week for the water facilities would be worth it.

I’m also going to try yoga and walking more frequently to help relieve stress. Fingers crossed! :)Wed. Feb 5, 2014 – 4:59 pm

Brandy - Awww Crystal! Your sweet comment made me smile. Thank you!Wed. Feb 5, 2014 – 5:07 pm

Jennifer - So sorry to hear you have Fibromyalgia. I certainly understand what it’s like to have a chronic disease. I don’t have Fibromyalgia, but I do also have a chronic pain disease. It’s called intercostal neuralgia. Most of my symptoms are very similar to yours. A major difference is that my pain isn’t random, it’s always on my right side in my rib area, in my right sholder and my hip. I also have the constant extreme fatigue from not sleeping well and it’s impossible to be comfortable for more than a few minutes at a time, so I fidget a lot. It’s really hard to get up and continue my day to day life. I’ve had to pretty much give up my photography because of work and I’m in school too. The three together, plus being a mom was killing me! I agree, the word “Chronic” is SCARY! And, people think they are being helpful when they say things like, “well at least it’s not cancer or anything deadly.” Listen, I know it’s hard to find out something like this, but I wanted to let you know that just reading your post helped me because I have no one that understands fully what I’m going through. With your symptoms being so close to mine, you are the first person I know of who can relate to me. I appreciate you sharing and please know we are in similar boats. Reach out to me with any questions you might have. I was diagnosed with my intercostal neuralgia in 2012.Wed. Feb 5, 2014 – 7:24 pm

Brandy - Jennifer,

Oh girl, I hear ya! It is NOT fun when the word “chronic” comes into play. I’m sorry to hear about your intercostal neuralgia and for sure I can relate. For a while I wondered if it was something like that because my chest hurt SO MUCH, all the time. Alas, my pain apparently likes to dance the macarena and shuffle around. Ha ha. Still it’s nerve stuff and you are right they are very similar. I know what you mean about having so much going on and photography having to pretty much stop. That is no fun!! We’ll definitely need to connect via email and share ideas / chat. Thank you so much for writing and reaching out to me, I really appreciate it! xo BThu. Feb 6, 2014 – 7:34 pm

Charis - hey brandy, i have always wondered why you didnt shoot more weddings. i think mine was the last one right? anyway, im so happy you figured out whats wrong and i hope you can find a way to help the pain not be unbearable. i am very sorry to hear this but you are such a positive person and so successful. i will for sure be thinking about you and praying for you! you’re the best!Fri. Feb 7, 2014 – 4:17 pm

Brandy - Hey Charis!

Awww thank you! Your wedding was one of the last ones I shot and it was such a great one! :) I kept it a secret until I wrapped the last wedding up! (Jana and Stephen) So far I keep the pain pretty controllable but mostly because I’ve cut out SO MUCH stress ha ha. I’m not sure how I would handle a regular 40 hour job + the everyday stress. I’m fortunate to be able to work a little from home at this time. Vitamin D seems to be helping as well but a bit to soon to tell. I miss shooting weddings they were so much fun and never a dull moment but they were just killing me physically. I do like having weekends again though! That is one perk to not shooting. ;) miss you!! xo BFri. Feb 21, 2014 – 2:53 pm

Noa Furfaro - I just came across this post and HAD to share this with you, only because this man is simply incredible and I HIGHLY recommend you seek out one of his practitioners regarding your fibromyalgia!
His name is Paul Chek. He’s a living health & wellness God.
I follow a podcast called underground Wellness by Sean Croxton and came across Paul on one of Sean’s radio shows…..I had my mind blown so many times in so many ways within the period of just an hour…
He’s got practitioners all over the world, and I bet on my life that he can help you, despite the fact that it is considered ‘incurable’ :)

Rachel - Now that’s a cake! You can’t share all those lovely shots and not divulge the how-to behind the magic! :)Fri. Jan 24, 2014 – 7:55 pm

Sandy - Yeah, I did nearly freeze to death out there and the wind! Oh my! But the photos are wonderful as was the cake! :)Sat. Jan 25, 2014 – 5:24 pm

Brandy - the how-to for the cake or the photos? if it’s the photos we just used an IKEA coffee table, and two pieces of white foam board. :)

Brandy - yeah, I so wish we had a piece of cake right now!! and thank you! couldn’t have done it without my (freezing) partner in crime. he heWed. Feb 5, 2014 – 5:13 pm

Remember that time we decided to live in our camper and sold all our stuff? Then later we decided to not live in our camper? Ha ha. Well lots of people have wondered what we’ve been up to lately. Honestly we didn’t know for a while. We could have bought a bigger camper (with a […]
